What is Medication Assisted Treatment?
-
Just like psychiatric disorders, substance use disorders are treated in multiple ways.
-
Evidence shows that medication can be extremely beneficial for someone to maintain their recovery.
-
Treatments include daily medications like Methadone or Suboxone and monthly Naltrexone.
-
These medications can be expensive and insurance companies do not always cover them.
What is Narcan?
-
Narcan, also known as Naloxone is a medication that can “reverse” a heroin/opiate overdose
-
Narcan is given through a nasal spray or an injection
-
When someone has overdosed, their breathing has slowed significantly or stopped completely. Narcan will assist that person in resuming normal breathing.
-
Having Narcan available can be the difference between life and death.
