CPC Pier House 5K Raises $7,900 |

The CPC Pier House 5K had over 750 runners and walkers enjoying the beachfront course on Labor Day- including CPC staffers, family members, friends, and Board members. This event raised over $7,900 in individual and corporate sponsorships. These proceeds will provide behavioral health and counseling services for children, teens and adults in Monmouth County in need.
Our leading fundraiser was Bonnie Wenzel from the Development Office with $890, followed by Andrea Barauskas of ACC with $700; our President John Mans with $515; Board Member Carol Strang with $375 and Jennifer Petillo with $325. Thanks to all of CPC's runners & walkers for representing our Agency. |

CPC's Culinary Adventure Food Tasting Set for Oct. 26 at the Sheraton Eatontown |

MIDDLETOWN/RED BANK - CPC Behavioral Healthcare will hold its annual food tasting, the "Culinary Adventure," on Monday, October 26, 2009 at The Sheraton in Eatontown from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. All proceeds from this fundraiser, hosted by the CPC Foundation, will provide behavioral health services to children, teens and adults in need, as a lifeline in a time of crisis.
"This gourmet food tasting is guaranteed to be a feast for your senses with local chefs showcasing their finest dishes like Cajun Spiced Salmon over Cheddar Grits, Grilled Rare Fillet Mignon, Blackened Scallops, Spiced Shrimp, Mushroom Ravioli, Garam Marsala Yogurt Chicken, Shells with Veal Ragu, Mushroom Chicken Barley Risotto," announced Co-chairs Pat Geiss and Debbie Nissim, both of Little Silver and Jane Guadagno of West Long Branch. The tasting will feature a variety of cuisine, gourmet desserts and specialty beverages.

CPC's Culinary Adventure will also feature CPC's annual Quilt Raffle, lavish Silent & Gift Auctions, door prizes, plus live music by Dave Miller of Long Branch.
"This year's handmade "Baltimore's Country Cousin" quilt continues the tradition of creating a textile masterpiece for the annual Quilt Raffle," notes Tracy, CPC's Public Relations Coordinator. "For 23 years, our volunteer quilters have supported the Agency's mission of helping Monmouth County residents in their time of need by donating their time and creativity to this fundraiser." CPC's dedicated quilters met every week for eight months to hand-stitch the "Baltimore's Country Cousin" quilt which will be on display at the Colts Neck Arts and Craft Show on Oct. 3-4 at Bucks Mill Park, 105 Bucks Mill Road in Colts Neck. Quilt raffle tickets are available for $20 (book of 10) or $2 per ticket. The winning ticket will be drawn at 9 p.m. at CPC's Culinary Adventure. The winner does not have to be present and will be notified by CPC. This handmade work of art is valued at $1,000. All materials were donated by Gail Alverson of Quintessential Quilts in Middletown and the CPC Quilters.
The Sheraton Eatontown is located at 6 Industrial Way East at the intersection of Route 35 in Eatontown. Tickets are $75 per person. Advance registration is recommended, however walk-ins will be accommodated on a space available basis. Journal advertisements and sponsorships are currently being accepted. The deadline is Oct. 9, 2009.

Brian C. Chu, Ph.D. is the featured presenter of the "Cognitive and Behavioral Approaches for Anxious Youth: Evidence-Based Strategies for Practice Settings" workshop on Oct. 26, 2009. This clinical training is offered by CPC Behavioral Healthcare with co-sponsorship by CentraState Medical Center -- Health Awareness Center.
Anxiety is one of the most common emotional disorders to impact children and adolescents. The workshop will present current knowledge of anxiety, its phenomenology and impact on youth, plus demonstrate current best practices in assessment and therapy techniques within a cognitive-behavioral framework (CBT). Mixture of didactics, discussion and interactive activities planned. Emphasis will be placed on the benefit of evidence-based practice. Participants will be taught to recognize the signs of anxiety in youth of different ages and to effectively involve families when appropriate.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the benefit of using evidence-based strategies to treat anxiety disorders in children and adolescents
- Make a differential diagnosis of anxiety disorders based on the client/consumer’s developmental level
- Effectively apply cognitive-behavioral interventions in the treatment of youth with anxiety disorders
- Effectively apply appropriate interventions for working with the families of youth with anxiety disorders

One of the nation's leading authorities on issues related to trauma, Edna B. Foa, Ph.D., is the featured speaker at CPC's Peter M. Bry Clinical Training on Friday, March 12, 2010, at the PNC Arts Center. Dr. Foa will present "Effective Treatments for PTSD" to mental health professionals and educators throughout New Jersey.
This full-day workshop will provide front line clinicians with the state-of-the-art treatments for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sponsored by CPC Behavioral Healthcare and the New Jersey Association of School Social Workers, the Peter M. Bry Clinical Training provides professionals from both the mental health and education fields with continuing education opportunities.
"The purpose of this clinical training series, established in 1989, is to bring top industry speakers to Monmouth County and provide training on the latest treatment methods for mental illness and behavioral problems," explained Kerry Herbert, Vice President of Development and Community Relations for CPC Behavioral Healthcare. "Once again, this year's Peter Bry Training offers an acclaimed author and educator."
Edna B. Foa, Ph.D. is a Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Personality, from University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1970. Dr. Foa devoted her academic career to study the psychopathology and treatment of anxiety disorders, primarily obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and social phobia and is currently one of the world leading experts in these areas.
Dr. Foa has published several books, over 300 articles and book chapters and has lectured extensively around the world. Publications include: Effective Treatments for PTSD: Practice Guidelines from the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Adolescents with PTSD Emotional Processing of Traumatic Experiences, Therapist Guide (Programs That Work); Stop Obsessing!: How to Overcome Your Obsessions and Compulsions.
Her work has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. Among them are: Distinguished Professor Award under the Fulbright Program for International Exchange of Scholars; Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Psychological Association, Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology; First Annual Outstanding Research Contribution Award presented by the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy; Distinguished Scientific Contributions to Clinical Psychology Award from the American Psychological Association; Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; and the 2006 Senior Scholar Fulbright Award.
An early bird registration fee of $115 is available until February 12, 2010; the regular registration is $135 per person. This fee includes a full-day of programming, continental breakfast, and luncheon.
Pending approval, the New Jersey Association of School Social Workers will provide 5 Clinical Continuing Education Units (N.J.A.C. 13:44-6) according to the regulatory criteria established by the New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners for the period of September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2010. These clinical CEUs will be provided to all social workers (LSW, LCSW) in attendance. The New Jersey Association of School Social Workers and CPC Behavioral Healthcare are approved providers for the New Jersey Department of Education and have approved this program for 5 Professional Development Hours.
